A Dose of Joy in Uncertain Times

Suzy Schultz spent a year in Poland between 1988 and 1989. “It was the last year the country was under a communist regime, and my time there had a profound impact on me, both personally and artistically,” she says.

“Longing for Flight” (watercolor on paper, 44 x 35 in.)

“Seven years after returning home to Atlanta, I painted Longing for Flight.  And now, years later, it will be traveling to Poland as part of the State Department’s ‘Art in Embassies’ program. It will be part of an exhibition on loan for three years at the residency of the ambassador to Poland, Mark Brzekinski.

“The curator of the exhibition wrote (before Ukraine was invaded): ‘The exhibition will celebrate the universal joy and borderless beauty of dance.’

“My hope is that the exhibition can bring a joy and beauty in the midst of such uncertainty and strife.”

The artist’s work is also on display in the Marietta Cobb Museum of Art’s annual juried exhibition, Metro Montage XXII through September 4, 2022, in Georgia.
