Depth of Character

“I met Charles many years ago at a friend’s house,” says Stan Miller. “We got to know each other, and I had him over to my studio, where I took a number of photos of him.  When I choose a model for a painting subject, it’s usually because their face, their character moves me. Charles has a depth of character that I find universal in communicating the weight and history of the challenges of being African American throughout our American history.”
