“I have loved to draw and paint all my life,” says Beth Marchant. “I am a representational painter, inspired by the beauty of nature and the way light can change color and define structure. I believe a successful painting must have both an accurate drawing and also correct values. Nothing gives me more pleasure than to sign a work of art that I’m happy with.

“My main interest is in architecture, and that is why I love illustrating the featured homes in the Guidebook for Historic Garden Week in Virginia. I started in 1997 doing ink drawings, and in 2012 we changed the look of the Guidebook by switching to watercolor paintings. I’ve been making 28-30 watercolor paintings for each edition since then.”
