The Lake Placid Center for the Arts (LPCA) is presenting “The World Through Watercolor,” a group art show featuring four of today’s most acclaimed watercolor artists — Laurie Goldstein-Warren, Tim Saternow, Thomas Schaller and Sarah Yeoman — from August 3 through September 15, 2018.
The show is the brainchild of Sarah Yeoman. The recruitment of other three artists has been years in the making. As Yeoman describes, what started as entering in the same shows at the Salmagundi Club in New York and other American Watercolor Society exhibits, lead to mutual admiration for each others work and eventually has grown into friendship. When organizing The World Through Watercolor, the choice of artists was easy. Yeoman explained, “Each artist is so unique in their approach. This is what makes this show so special. No one else paints they do.”
Laurie Goldstein-Warren
Originally from New York, Laurie now lives in West Virginia. She has been painting watercolors for the last 19 years. Laurie continues to experiment with new techniques in watercolor and watercolor/acrylic. She has exhibited her work in the United States, Japan, Turkey, Greece, Canada and China. Currently, she travels and teaches workshops across the United States. Her works focus on cityscapes, portraits and still life. She has been published in Watercolor Artist Magazine several times and her work has recently earned the High Winds Medal Award at the 150th anniversary of the American Watercolor Society Exhibition.
Tim Saternow
Tim Saternow is an American painter whose large-scale urban watercolors reveal the fleeting beauty of the gritty streets, industrial buildings and warehouses, and the old High Line train trestles of New York City.
Saternow’s work has been exhibited throughout the United States and internationally, including the 2016 & 2017 American Watercolor Society Traveling Exhibitions, The Brattleboro Museum, Brattleboro, Vermont; The William Benton Museum of Art, Storrs, Connecticut; and the Prague Quadrennial, The Czech Republic.
His work has appeared in numerous publications including Watercolor Artist, The Art of Watercolour Magazine, American Artist Water Color Magazine, the books Art Journey America, and Splash 12, 13 & 18: The Best of Watercolor, among others.
Thomas Schaller
Thomas Schaller is an award-winning artist and architect based in Los Angeles. He has authored three books; the best-selling, and AIA award winner, Architecture in Watercolor, The Art of Architectural Drawing, and Thomas W. Schaller, Architecture of Light : Watercolor Paintings from a Master – a retrospective of his recent artwork to be released in 2018. He is in demand worldwide as speaker, juror, exhibitor, author, and instructor in the watercolor medium.
His artwork has been featured in prestigious International Watercolor Masters exhibitions in over twenty countries. His paintings and writing have also been featured in a great many books, magazines, and arts publications including The Artist Magazine, Watercolor Artist Magazine, Southwest Art Magazine, The Art of Watercolour, Practique des Arts, Los Angeles Magazine, International Artist Magazine and Splash: the Best of Watercolor.
Sarah Yeoman
Sarah Yeoman is an award-winning American watercolor artist and a new signature member of the American Watercolor Society for 2017. She also has signature membership in the Philadelphia and Delaware Watercolor Societies. Her mastery of reflections, unique surface layers, and unusual perspective clearly sets her apart from the crowd.
Living in Delaware in the northeastern United States, she is recognized for her command of light narrative and strength of story. She is inspired by Winslow Homer and John Singer Sargent and in the summer, Sarah follows Winslow’s footsteps in the Adirondack Mountains of New York State, hiking and paddling in remote locations where she paints and collects references. She is equally at home in urban and lush garden settings; she lives on a private garden estate and draws on the greenhouses and gardens for inspiration, but also finds beauty in nearby Philadelphia and its rich architectural and human vibrations. Her years as a singer/songwriter flow through her process in the melodious and lyrical qualities of her paintings.
