“Contemplation” (watercolor painting)

“While visiting Havana, Cuba, in 2017, I came upon this young man sitting on a sunlit piazza immersed in writing in a journal,” says Anne Hightower-Patterson. “I was immediately drawn to the warmth of the light creating shadows across his face and bouncing off of his dreadlocks. I quickly took a few photos, and upon my return home, I created this painting in my studio.”
