Ambassador of the Week: Karen Andrews

Meet Karen Andrews, this week’s top American Watercolor Weekly Ambassador!

“Sunflower Head” I had found this sunflower head on a walk, and became immersed in all of the many layers, shapes, and intricate but subtle color variations. I did several versions of it, but this was my favorite.

Karen Andrews, a photographer and watercolorist from West Stockbridge, MA has shown her work in one-woman and group exhibitions throughout the Berkshires, New England and internationally since 1996. Originally from New Haven, CT, Andrews received her B.A. in Art History & Studio Art from Oberlin College in 1979. Her work has been included in such corporate and institutional collections as the DeCordova Museum, the American Embassy in Taiwan and Hartford Hospital.

“Card Lake, Autumn” It was my homage to one of the most beautiful autumns, and was painted right after the death of my husband of 19 years. The colors were otherworldly and the process of painting this helped me transform my grief into beauty. The pointillism of the painting may be a throwback to my art history education, but i liked the aliveness and movement it created.

She has won numerous awards for her photographs, including the prestigious Provincetown Art Association Juried Show, and has been published in local and regional publications.
